Seats are filling up quickly for the upcoming intake of the Certificate in Safety and Health Officer (CiSHO) programme at the Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS - Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak), Tabuan Jaya, Kuching.

In its recent press release, Sarawak Skills highlighted that the Certificate in Safety and Health Officer programme is fully funded under the Golongan Pekerja dan Future Workers (GPFW) scheme. The funding covers both the tuition fees and the examination fees. The mid-June 2020 intake is limited to fifty (50) trainees.

Taking into account the many challenges faced by the populace arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Registration Fee to join the programme has been reduced from RM250.00 to RM50.00. In addition, during the course of the programme (6 months), each trainee will receive an allowance of RM 280.00 per month.

During the six-month full-time programme, the trainees will attend classes (theory component) for three months at the Sarawak Skills Campus in Tabuan Jaya. Thereafter, trainees will be required to embark on a three-month Industrial Attachment. Should there be a further extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, the theory component will be conducted online. This will facilitate Home-based Learning for trainees who may be from different locations across Sarawak. Upon completion of the programme and passing the examination, trainees will be awarded the Certificate in Safety and Health Officer by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Those who have completed the programme will be able to apply for a wide range of positions in Occupational Safety and Health across the length and breadth of industry. As seen during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Safety and Health Officers play an important role as part of an organization’s Crisis Management Team. They play an important role in formulating Action and Mitigation Plans to safeguard the interests and well-being of various stakeholders.

Diploma and Bachelor’s degree holders (from Technical and Science background(s)) from the following categories are encouraged to submit their applications: Fresh Graduates, Unemployed Graduates, Retrenched Workers or those who have opted for the Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS). Applicants must be between 21 and 35 years old.
