International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak’s (i-CATS) lecturer, Hisyammudin Maseri received the Gold Award for his invention during the Innovation Technology Expo (InTEX) 2019, held recently in Kuching.
The award was presented to Hisyammudin and his team in recognition of the “invention/innovation of Cylindrical Detention Pond (CDP) as Innovative Green Pavement System to reduce runoff under saturated condition”.
The two-day expo involved 220 participants from various public and private Higher Learning Institutions (IPTA/IPTS) nationwide.
Hisyammudin, 32, a civil engineering lecturer said “the invention is a continuous project since four years ago under Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and the government.”
“I was assigned to the hydrological portion which is part of the invention, while the other team members had their own responsibilities to complete our project. One of the clients for this project is Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) and they have assigned a company to buy the patent to be implemented in any impermeable area(s).”
“The main idea of this invention was from Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mannan. Early this year, we went to UTM Johor to present our paper and it was selected for publication in the International Journal of Computational and Theoretical Nanoscience,” Said Hisyammudin.
“We did not expect to get the gold award, we are in the progress of completing the invention. Hopefully, next year we will be able to obtain funds to participate in international exhibitions or conferences,” Hisyammudin said.
Hisyammudin encourages students and lecturers to be involved in innovation expos or exhibitions in future to unearth more talent in innovation.
