Tunggu Result Ambil Kemahiran (TRAK) program enables participants to experience first-hand learning about technical programs offered by PPKS Group throughout its subsidiaries of International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS), Automotive & Welding Institute of Sarawak (AWISAR) and Sarawak Electrical Industry Training Institute (SEITI).
Started on 10 January until 10 February 2017, the one-month program rationalized its mission as a platform to intensify awareness for technical education as a first choice of education through hands-on approaches.
TRAK is a flagship program under Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak (PPKS) design with aims to modelling young minds for technical education readiness in line with its objective to expose technical education and career pathway targeting 20 participants.
The TRAK modules designed with emphasis on theoretical and practical introduced participants of about various technical courses available at PPKS includes introduction courses ranging from Oil Palm Planting & Maintenance (Pruning), Build Your Own Circuit with Electronic Course, Introduction to Hydraulic System, What is AutoCAD in Draughtsman, Basic Graphic Software, Introduction to Hvac & Basic Maintenance, Introduction to computer parts & Installation, Introduction to meeting & Meeting Preparation, to Basic Electrical & Single Phase Wiring.
Hallman Sabri, Executive Director of PPKS Group during TRAK Closing Ceremony opined that technical education is critical for developing state such as Sarawak and he continuously encourage youths from rural areas to take up on technical education as their first choice. Hallman also advised participants about the importance of English language and other soft skills.
The 21-year-old, STPM holder from SMK Datuk Patinggi Kedit Betong, Cindy Ak Ambu commenting that TRAK is a unique program that meets its objectives by allowing the participant to learn technical courses through hands-on experiences such as air-condition servcing and pruning palm-oil trees. Outcome from joining PPKS TRAK program, she anticipates to enroll in a bachelor program offered by i-CATS.
Sharing the same sentiment were twin brothers from SMK Methodist Sibu, Tobias Lau and Elliot Lau who said the program offered new knowledge and unordinary experiences compares to the regular academic system. “Not only has the TRAK program opened different perspective of technical education, the TRAK modules also highlight the relevant expertise needed by the growing demand of industry”.
Roslyn, one of the participants, said her passion about arts and food gave her opportunity to explore technical education pathway of culinary whilst in the future she intended to enroll in Diploma in Culinary at PPKS Group. Meanwhile, 18 years-old, Jerry Thomas highlight the best experience during TRAK program is when he learned about graphic design.
Anticipating outcome from the TRAK program to increase volume for technical program take up amongst youth, another session will be held in May at PPKS Kuching whilst similar program is currently being held at PPKS Mukah with a month duration starting from 15 February till 15 March 2017.
