KUCHING- Realizing the enormous potential in Sarawak Tourism Industry, The International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) sought the opportunities to introduce and offer a Diploma Program in Environmental Tourism Management to the school leavers since the year of 2008. The Diploma in Environmental Tourism Management is i-CATS’s home-grown program aiming to fill the gaps of human capital demands at producing professional workforce in tourism industry.

 The Diploma in Environmental Tourism Management is a two and  half years program that designed with variety of learning modules ranging from lectures, coursework assignments, fieldtrip assignments, and industry visit to industry training. These designated learning modules encourage active participations and involvements from students to learn and master the tourism industry and its principles.

Amongst the pivotal subjects being offered in Diploma Program of Environmental Tourism Management are relatively management and administrative subjects – Introduction to Tourism, Nature Research Methodology in Tourism, Sustainability Tourism and Environmental, Environmental Impact Assessment and others. Despite the emphasized of key-subjects, i-CATS believes that it has the basic amenities and well-experienced lecturers and instructors to educate and prepare its students for the development of Sarawak tourism industry.

In line to produce i-CATS graduates towards competitively marketable and valuable, recently a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between i-CATS and Kangwon Tourism College of Kangwon Province, South Korea. Throughout this MoU, it is foreseen as a platform for acquiring experiences and knowledge at the global level via international exchange program of i-CATS’ personnel and students.

 At the local level, i-CATS with its strategic partners mostly from the tourism industry players (the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV), the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), the Sarawak Forestry Corporation and local government) enables students to experience an actual exposure to Sarawak Tourism Industry by providing avenues for students to undergo their industrial training closely with the tourism industry players.

 The minimum requirement for applicant to apply Diploma in Environmental Tourism Management is with Passes in SPM or SPMV – at least three credits in any subjects or Passed third level of Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) in Nature Guide.
