The recent launch of the Integration in Power Generation initiative at Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak (PPKS) Tabuan Jaya, Kuching has set the stage for a host of activities to advance teaching and learning in the campus and transform PPKS Kuching into a Garden Campus.
Speaking at the launch of the Integration in Power Generation initiative on 27 July 2018 at PPKS Kuching, Mr. Hallman bin Haji Sabri, Executive Director of PPKS commended the management, staff and students of PPKS Private Vocational College (a subsidiary company of PPKS), for spearheading this noble initiative. He was pleased to note that under the leadership of Tuan Haji Rambli bin Haji Hasbi, Director of PPKS Private Vocational College, both staff and students had tapped their wellsprings of creativity and innovation to extend teaching and learning beyond the classroom. For the students of the Diploma in Electrical Power Generation Technology programme, this was a wonderful opportunity for them to bring theoretical concepts to life. For example, the development of a solar-powered LED sign under the Integration in Power Generation initiative was a shining example of the ongoing effort by PPKS to harness clean renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and water (hydro).
Mr. Hallman also highlighted that the various environmentally-friendly projects initiated by the staff and students of PPKS Private Vocational College were in line with PPKS’s long-standing commitment to protect the natural environment and ‘to go green’. Indeed, the various activities would transform PPKS into a Garden Campus.
Earlier in her welcoming remarks, Ms Izairah binti Ahmad, Head of General Studies, PPKS Private Vocational College and Organizing Chairperson of the Integration in Power Generation initiative shared that the various projects complemented the practice of 5S at PPKS and would go a long way to enhance PPKS’s teaching and learning environment. She also highlighted that as part of the initiative, 7 zones were developed, namely Assessment Zone, Botany Zone, Bougainvillea Zone, Hydro Zone, Overhead Zone, Solar Zone and Surya Zone. These zones would be the green lungs of the campus.
