Opportunity for Secondary School Leavers and Parents to Obtain First-hand Information about Academic Pathways and Career Choices during i-CATS Open Days

Public Invited to Attend Free Seminar by Internationally Renowned Professor and Participate in Car Boot Sale

Secondary school leavers and their parents are encouraged to visit the International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) during its ongoing Open Days from 11 to 14 July 2018 at its Jalan Stampin Timur Campus in Kuching. The campus will be open to the general public from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the aforementioned period.


During her speech on 11 July 2018 to launch the Open Days, Yang Berbahagia Dato Hajjah Maznah binti Dasmi, Secretary of the Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak (PPKS) Management Council highlighted that the main purpose of the i-CATS Open Days was to assist secondary school leavers to make informed decisions about academic pathways and career choices. In this respect, members of the i-CATS academic team and course counsellors would be available for face-to-face counselling on the wide range of programmes including various forms of financial assistance. i-CATS is a subsidiary company of PPKS.


Yang Berbahagia Dato Hajjah Maznah binti Dasmi also shared that in conjunction with the Open Days, visitors could participate in various activities. For example, the Next Chef Idol Cooking Competition which was held on 11 July 2018 attracted many contestants determined to showcase their skills in crafting a range of culinary delights. She also took the opportunity to invite members of the public to attend a seminar entitled ‘Bio-logging Reveals Underwater Behaviours of Sea Turtles’ on 14 July 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. To be held in i-CATS’s Lecture Theatre 1, the seminar will be conducted by Professor Sato Katsufumi from the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, University of Tokyo, Japan. The free seminar is co-organized by the Ecology Conservation Office and the Midin Events Company with the support of the Red Crescent Stampin District. i-CATS is the Venue Sponsor. Due to popular demand, admission to the free seminar will be on a first come, first served basis.


On Saturday, 14 July 2018, members of the public are also invited to participate in a car boot sale organized by staff and students of Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak (PPKS) Group of Institutions. The car boot sale will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in i-CATS’s on-campus car park.


Among the guests and visitors present during the launch of the Open Days were Principals, Counsellors and Teachers from various secondary schools and a delegation from the Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by its President Mr. Tan Jit Kee. Following the launch of the Open Days and a campus tour, a discussion was held with the delegation from the Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Industry on various joint initiatives such as information sharing sessions to students from the Chinese community on the broad spectrum of industry-relevant skills programmes and career pathways.


At i-CATS, opportunities abound for students to earn internationally recognized diploma and degree level qualifications in Business Administration, Culinary Arts, Engineering, Hotel Management, Information Technology and Tourism.


In this respect, booths have been set up during the Open Days to showcase programmes offered by i-CATS and final-year projects by students. Visitors will also be able to obtain information on two new programmes, namely the Diploma in Accounting and Foundation in Management programmes. Members of the public are also encouraged to join the guided campus tour during their visit.
